PondMan®
Pond Management for Clear, Clean Ponds
When Ponds Are Out of Balance
What causes algae growth? Water quality in ponds and small lakes easily deteriorates when surface water runs off from chemically fertilized lands, or when the pond is overwhelmed by falling leaves or other organic decay.
High concentrations of the resulting inorganic nutrients (PO4 and NH3) stimulate the growth of algae, which eventually die and settle to the bottom of the pond. These sediments decompose slowly because microbial concentration and oxygen levels are low, and there is a build-up of organic acids. Eventually, conditions exceed the pond’s natural ability to rejuvenate itself, resulting in bottom solids,
turbidity, algae, oxygen deficient conditions and foul odors.
True Pond Management
PondMan helps restore ponds and smalls lakes to a healthy biological equilibrium by providing oxygen and beneficial bacterial strains. The mechanical action of PondMan’s air bubbles as the tablet dissolves and PondMan’s density and shape help lodge the tablet deep into the sediment. This adds oxygen while disbursing beneficial bacterial strains throughout the sediment. The effervescent action also loosens the particulate matter, making it more available for bacterial action. Because PondMan is in a barley straw matrix, it’s twice as effective in keeping ponds clear. Barley straw decomposes in water and during the process releases chemicals which are unfavorable to the growth of algae.
PondMan:
- Helps consume excess nutrients in the pond to manage pond
turbidity and algae.
- Delivers oxygen to bottom
sediment, and inoculates with
beneficial bacteria.
- Changes conditions under
which odor and surface scum
and solids form.
- Changes solids degradation
from anaerobic (creates foul
odors and is inactive) to aerobic
digestion (odor free and active).
- Reduces unwanted compounds
such as nitrates, phosphates,
ammonia and organic sulfides.
- Residual by-products act as a
buffer that helps maintain pond
or small lake pH at desirable levels.
Other liquid and/or powder treatments do not address oxygen needs of the bottom solids, adjust pH, or place the bacterial strains where they are needed. PondMan tablets settle to the bottom of the pond to work from the bottom up. Beneficial bacterial strains are spread throughout the water column through the carrying action of the fine bubbles which also provide aerobic activity.
